How long should a Blog Post be?

From the Series ‘Questions I get asked all the time’…

How long should a blog post be?

As always, a bit of a piece of string question as it kinda depends on the topic and the goal of the blog post.

But as a general guide to try and help you guys out we have the following:

A Snippet Blog Post:

300 – 1000 words

A post that is a direct short answer to a focussed question. Often used to try and get a featured snippet.

A Support Blog Post:

1000 – 2500 words

Generally content that needs a deeper answer, that is helping or educating. This post might have several subs sections talking around the subject not just directly on it.

You might hope to rank for more than one search intent with this type of post.

A Hero Blog Post:

2500+ words

World class content with in depth research, planning and production – often called cornerstone content.

Will probably use a table of contents and have custom formatting to make content easy to access and digest for the reader.
