Why do Google search results look different?

Why does my Google search look different to yours?

After chatting to lots of people recently about their SEO this came up a lot, so I thought it would be worth popping on here for everyone.

When we chat about where peoples websites are ranking in Google I do have to mention how every users search results are displayed differently depending on a few things.

There are many different elements that determine what the results from a Google search displays, including:

👉 The type of device used for the search (desktop, laptop, phone, tablet),

👉 Your personal search history

👉 Whether you are logged in to a Google Account while searching
👉 Your geographic location

👉 What type of browser you are using

👉 The number of Google-generated ads on the page

👉 What type of search you are doing

So whilst keeping an eye on your rankings is important to see if you need to make any changes, please don’t get too hung up on exact positions.

The best way to get a view of the results without the above affecting the search is to do a search in incognito view. It’s not infallible but it’s certainly the best you’re going to get.
